Overview
AO PSF Simulation
This section covers the core functionality of TipTop: the fast analytical simulation of Adaptive Optics (AO) Point Spread Functions (PSFs).
Based on a Fourier-domain analytical model, TipTop predicts long-exposure AO PSFs and associated performance metrics (Strehl ratio, FWHM, encircled energy, etc.) for a broad range of observing configurations. The framework supports all major AO architectures—including SCAO, LTAO, MCAO, and GLAO—as well as both Shack–Hartmann and Pyramid wavefront sensors, arbitrary atmospheric profiles, telescope geometries, and instrument configurations.
Whether you are running your first simulation or developing more advanced workflows, this section provides all the documentation required to configure, launch, and analyse TipTop simulations.
